3 Free Alternatives to Facebook Marketing


With the recent news of Facebook restricting the organic reach of businesses pages to only about 1-2% of their audience, you may be left wondering: “What now?” If you are anything like me, Facebook has been a huge part of your marketing plan and gaining new clients. With this news though I was personally not too worried. There are plenty more marketing strategies. Here are 3 free alternatives to Facebook marketing that may be helpful to your business.

  1. SEO – Search engine optimization is a great way to reach future clients. Optimizing your website or blog to rank in search results can dramatically increase your business. Check out a few of our blog posts regarding SEO and be sure to follow us for future posts. I personally plan on writing a MASSIVE post about SEO for photographers. You can also search in Google for SEO tips. Try not to waste money paying for all these SEO companies and membership websites. Everything they do/offer can be done/found for FREE by yourself. It just takes some time and commitment.
  2. Google Places – If you haven’t already, sign up for Google Places. Here, you can list your business for free so when people search in Google for a photographer in their area, they will find your listing. Something I like a lot about Google places is the fact that the listing shows up before any other search results. This puts you at the top of the radar for consumers. The best part is it does not take much SEO knowledge or anything to setup this Google places listing. Be sure to be thorough with the listing and include a description, images, etc. Also, throw a shout out to past clients to leave you a review, this will help bring you towards the top of the Google Places list.
  3. Networking – This can be a HUGE way to improve your outreach to potential clients. Networking can be anything from attending local events to participating in charity work, etc. You can also try contacting local venues and seeing if they would like to feature your work on their website or similar from an event you did there. Potential brides love this kinda thing. There are literally a million different ways to network and grow your business. Anytime you can get in front of someone new, tell them a bit about yourself, and maybe give them a business card then you are greatly increasing your potential business. I can not tell you how many people book me just because “So and so said you are awesome, and I trust them.”

I have seen a lot of photographers and page owners ranting on Facebook and kind of freaking out. Stay calm. It is not the end of the world, I promise. I could easily spit out 50 ways to market your business. (Which I probably will here soon) Try and think out of the box. Get creative with your marketing and how you can reach potential clients. Think local. You will be just fine!
